🛬 Day 1: Arrival at Bagdogra/NJP – Drive to Phuentsholing

Welcome to Bagdogra/NJP! Begin your journey to Phuentsholing, the vibrant frontier town of Bhutan. After completing immigration formalities with the assistance of our professional guide and tour operator, check into your hotel.

  • Altitude: 300m / 985 ft
    Phuentsholing is a bustling commercial center located at the base of the Himalayan foothills. A melting pot of ethnic groups—Indian, Bhutanese, and Nepalese—it serves as the main entry and exit point to Bhutan and connects to West Bengal, Sikkim, and Assam.

Evening: Enjoy a relaxing walk through downtown.

🛏️ Overnight stay in Phuentsholing

After an early breakfast, drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. En route, enjoy sightseeing at:

  • Zangtho Pelri Goenpa
  • Crocodile Breeding Centre
  • Kharbandi Goenpa

Upon arrival, check into your hotel.

Thimphu is a unique city blending modern development with ancient traditions. With a population of about 90,000, it is the world’s only capital without traffic lights.

Evening: Stroll through the Handicrafts Emporium and local crafts bazaar, showcasing Bhutan’s traditional arts.

After breakfast, enjoy a full day of sightseeing:

  • Kuensel Phodrang – Visit the massive Buddha Dordenma statue
  • Handicraft Emporium, National Library, Changangkha Monastery
  • Zorig Chusum – Institute for 13 Traditional Arts & Crafts
  • Textile Museum, National Memorial Chorten, Craft Gallery, Folk Heritage Museum

Afternoon:

  • Takin Preserve Centre – Home to Bhutan’s national animal, the Takin, a rare goat-antelope hybrid
  • Tashichho Dzong – The Fortress of the Glorious Religion
  • Craft Bazaar Market

🛏️ Overnight stay in Thimphu

After breakfast, drive to Paro and explore:

  • Simtokha Dzong – Bhutan’s first Dzong, built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1629
  • National Museum of Bhutan – Located above Rinpung Dzong inside the Ta Dzong, featuring art, scrolls, bronze statues, and cultural exhibits
  • Rinpung Dzong – Built in 1646, home to the district’s monastic body and administrative offices
  • Nya Mey Zam Bridge – Known as “The Bridge with No Fish”

Return to your hotel and relax.

🛏️ Overnight stay in Paro

After a hearty breakfast, gear up for a memorable hike to the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang).

  • The hike takes about 3 hours for avid trekkers, with slightly longer times for beginners.
  • The monastery is perched dramatically on a cliff, surrounded by pine and rhododendron forests.

🦅 Legend says: Guru Rinpoche, believed to be the Second Buddha, flew to this site on a tigress’s back to subdue a local demon. He then meditated here for 3 months.

After the hike, return to your hotel and unwind.

After breakfast, drive back to Phuentsholing.

Evening: Enjoy a relaxed walk around the Main Street and market area.

After breakfast, check out of your hotel. Complete the exit formalities with help from our guide and tour operator. Then drive to New Jalpaiguri Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport.
