🗓️ Day-Wise Itinerary

🛬 Day 1: Hasimara Station to Thimphu (via Phuentsholing – Enroute Sightseeing)

Pick-up from Hasimara Railway Station. After completing immigration formalities, visit:

  • Zangdopelri, Phuentsholing – Close to the weekend market, this modern chapel was built in the 1990s as a representation of Guru Rinpoche’s celestial abode by Dasho Aku Tongmi, the composer of Bhutan’s national anthem.
  • Kharbandi Gompa (Rinchending Gompa) – Located approximately 5 km from Phuentsholing Town, it offers a stunning view of the Indian plains and Bhutanese mountains. It was built under the guidance of the late Queen Mother Ashi Phuntsho Choden.
  • Drive to Thimphu, enjoying scenic views of beautiful mountains and waterfalls. Thimphu is a unique city blending modernity with ancient traditions. With a population of about 90,000, it is perhaps the only capital city in the world without traffic lights.
  • Evening: Visit the Handicrafts Emporium and Local Crafts Bazaar to explore Bhutan’s traditional arts—hand-woven textiles, thangkha paintings, masks, wood and slate carvings, jewelry, and more. You may also enjoy evening shopping around the market area.
  • Overnight stay in Thimphu (Altitude: 2,320m)

After breakfast, proceed for local sightseeing:

  • Kuensel Phodrang (Buddha Dordenma Statue) – A massive Buddha statue atop the Kuensel Phodrang.
  • Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory
  • Handicraft Emporium
  • National Library
  • Changangkha Monastery
  • Zorig Chusum (Institute of 13 Traditional Arts & Crafts)

Afternoon:

  • Takin Preserve Centre – Home to Bhutan’s national animal, the Takin—a mix of goat and cow, unique to Bhutan.
  • Tango Monastery
  • Tashichho Dzong – Fortress of the Glorious Religion.
  • Craft Bazaar Market

Overnight stay in Thimphu

After breakfast, drive to Paro and visit:

  • Simtokha Dzong – Bhutan’s first dzong, built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1629 AD.
  • National Museum of Bhutan – Located above Rinpung Dzong in the ancient Ta-Dzong building, it houses Bhutanese cultural artifacts including fine paintings and bronze statues.
  • Rinpung Dzong – Built in 1646 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, it houses Paro’s monastic body, administrative offices, and the district court.
  • Nyamai Zam Bridge – Known as “The Bridge with No Fish.”

Return to hotel and relax.
Overnight stay in Paro

After breakfast, enjoy a thrilling hike to Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang Monastery).

  • The hike takes about 3 hours for avid trekkers; beginners may take longer.
  • Tiger’s Nest – Perched on a cliff, the monastery offers breathtaking views of blue pine and rhododendron forests. Legend says Guru Rinpoche (regarded as the Second Buddha) flew here on a tigress’ back to subdue a local demon and meditated at this site for three months.
  • After the hike, return to the hotel and relax.
